Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS)

Indication:

Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) refers to any of a group of symptoms attributed to the obstruction of the coronary arteries.  Presentation may include, but not be limited to:

  • Chest pain or pressure
  • Radiation of chest pain to the left arm and/or left angle of the jaw
  • Diaphoresis
  • Dyspnea
  • Nausea and/or vomiting

Precaution:

  • Scene Safety

Procedure:

  • Airway
  • Breathing
  • Circulation
  • Oxygen – high flow
  • Position of comfort
  • May assist patient in taking his or her own medications if indicated
  • Vascular access
  • Medications
  • Treat underlying dysrhythmias accordingly

Direct to Cath Lab transport may be recommended depending on scene location and patient assessment.  Contact medical control for recommendations and orders.
