Amount of fluid required in 24 hours (ml) = 4 × Patient’s weight (kg) × Body surface area involved in burns (%)

The first half of this amount is delivered in the first 8 hours and the remaining fluid is delivered in the next 16 hours.

The body surface area involved in burns is calculated by applying the rule of nine.
